DRUG HELP LINE BY PGI CHANDIGARH FOR  EDUCATING DOCTOR & PATIENTS FOR "DRUGS"

First time in our country, a premier institute of India,Post Graduate Medical Education & Research or " PGI " Chandigarh has started a telephonic Help Line for eucating Doctors an Patients for any Drug or medicine prescribed either in PGI Chandigarh or from any other Government or Private Hospital or Private clinic.

      The idea behind this great motive is that many patients donot understand about the medicine prescribed as Doctor prescribing it may not explain all facts as giving less time to patient or has not developed this attitude or has written so illegibly the medicine that often patient donot able to read or understand it.How Much amount of medicine to be taken,how many times before or after food at what time and for how many days,what are its early side effects and with what medicine or food it interacts so effect may be less and what will be its dose if other co disease like Liver or kidney failure or infections present beside its dose  in pregnancy,old,childrens etc These are basic questions which should be explained to every patient as if no effective dose of medicine reach to body,disease may not be cured completly or permanantly leading to recurrance or resistance of Disease to that medicine.For example Many even educated patients in our country take anti hypertensive,diabetic,antithyroid,anti TB etc regularly and daily and donot complete course of antibiotics .

                 Even Many Doctors donot know much detail about the disease as they have learned it during 2nd semester of their MBBS course which may be 5 to 50 yrs or more back and every day new medicine are invented and many side effects an clinical study are reported by which safety and adequate use of a medicine are changed regularly and even after few years many medicines are banned so  A DOCTOR also require an Up to date knowledge of a medicine.               

      The services of Drug Information Unit or Drug Help Line are being started In PGI Chandigarh for the General Public and for Doctors for getting any answer for their treatment medicine- (drug) related questions, available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.The helpline numbers for this service will be 0172-2755245 and 7087008937.The motive behind starting this helpline is to provide proper and complete information to the patient as most of the time doctor-patient communication remains incomplete and patient is not vigilant enough for possible side-effects of medicines prescribed.

       Such services should be stated by other premier government institute in different state capital and district head quarters or should be started by different offices of Doctor;s associations like IMA,FOGSI,API, ASI,IAP etc as it will reduce misuse of medicines mostly needed for checking Unwanted use of Antibiotics to prevent its coming resistance.Beside this now MCI has warned every doctor to use Generic medicines in prescription as a result Pharmacist will be doctors as they will give medicines of their profitable brand but such availability of service to a patient will educate them to check it beside knowing all details of Medicine about the quality of medicine too resulting in better compliance of medicine so that all diseases will be tackled effectively.Such help line may  also reduce the sale of medicine over Counter or online by self or other person 's advice verbally or through electronic,printed or social media without prescription of Doctor.            Such secondary fabricated and fake market of Drug is not only an industry of thousand crores in India which is blow to our economy as mostly run by black money but also very hazardous to patients too as many fake and spurious medicines and health gadgets,instruments and prostheses are produced ,manufactured and marketed because of lax laws or corrupt and bribed Drug Authorites,Police ,General and Health Administration.
