The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria aims to reach three million people who are not diagnosed, treated or documented with TB, according to a Global Fund statement. TB is the leading cause of death among HIV-positive people in developing nations with the highest rates of HIV.
Three million of the nine million people worldwide who get sick with TB do not get the care they need. The Global Fund is accelerating efforts to support countries implementing TB programs to drive down the numbers of deaths and cases. A new financing model seeks to support countries in filling funding gaps.
According to the World Health Organization and the Stop TB Partnership, 75 percent of the three million cases are in 12 countries. As a result, the Global Fund is supporting TB projects in those 12 countries.
