BRIDGE COURSE OF BDS TO MBBS -AN UNSCIENTIFIC & IRRATIONAL DREAM

Modern medicine Doctor people ratio is very less than what is required and in rural areas most MBS doctors does not go due to poor infrastructural and educational lacking,our present Government has hinted to correct it by changing Ayush,Homeopathic,BDS doctors into MBBS doctors by a bridge courses.Previously last Government introduced concept of rural or community doctors but due to heavy critics and opposition by Modern Medicine doctors.Government withdrew it.

         Therefore The Dental Council of India (DCI) chairman prof Dibyendu Majumdar yestarday said that they have suggested to the Centre for introduction of a three-year MBBS bridge course for BDS graduates who can work as full-fledged MBBS doctors.We are awaiting the clearance from the Medical Council of India (MCI) in this connection,” Prof Majumdar said while speaking at the ‘Eastern Zonal Continuing Dental Education Programme, 2018’ being held under the aegis of the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the SOA University.

                      It is a good dream being seen by  DCI chairman who also said that If BDS graduates are allowed to go through a three-year bridge course, they can serve in the rural areas for four to five years.he also added that he allowed dental surgeon to sign death certificates and wanted Government to expand more money on Dental health.

                   Some say such announcement is one hand to please Government on one hand and another to Dental surgeons of country as his continuation as DCI chairman being representative of a pvt dental college is highly debatable and many charges against him are available on net.BDS courses in Dental colleges is no more preferred by students and Dental colleges are on verge of closures so if by such lateral easy entry in BDS course instead of qualifying a tough MBBS NEET examination will be a great boost up for dental education if they can get a MBBS degree in last.

           As Government wants to replace present MCI having charges of corruption by NMC due to its lack of reforming of health and medical education in country .so MCI is now under pressure of Government to start such irrational and unscientific bridge courses.

             Although as suggested first three subjects  Anatomy,physiology and Biochemistry is same for MBBS and BDS courses even than MBBS students read it more elaborately in concept of whole body rather restricted to only oral health .Beside this all subjects differ and any one wanting similiarty by  bridge course than BDS has to read all subjects taught to MBBS students for more 3-4 years and have to have necessary rotational internship in all clinical and community subjects.If BDS will be so lengthy than why they are not given oppurtunity to do MDS in these years by increasing MDS seats rather changing them into MBBS.

        Secondly presently MBBS doctors not going to rural places is also not correct ,actually Government alocatt very less health budget so only few posts are vaccant why applicants are ten times more as seen in a recent interview.Our Government should develop Dental,Ayush and Homeopath separately and modern medicine separately by spending more percentage of GDP which is now only 1%.

             Such bridging and mixing courses will generate new Council,confusion among persons,will invite corruptions and kichari of medical education which will be not only unscientific and irrational but shall be a laughing stock of Indian Medical Education in whole world particularly in advanced countries as US,UK, Australia,Japan etc and developing countries like Afganisthan,Srilanka,Nepal south african and middle east countries from where thousand of patients come to India for treatment as Modern medicine treatment in India is achieving great reputation in whole world.
