POLITICIANS TARGETIING DOCTORS -UTTRAKHAND DOCTORS ORDERED FOR O3 PRESCRIPTIONS
After gag order of MCI to all doctors to write generic medicines ,Uttrakhand took a stange decision of implenting it by ordering all Doctors in Uttrakhand to write 03 prescriptions for one patient.Under triplicate prescription system, the physician will keep a copy of the prescription with him and the remaining two copies will be given to the patient and pharmacist. Those who wish to prescribe non-generic medicine need to seek permission from a senior doctor and mention the reason behind prescribing them. Also, during audit these prescriptions would be presented to the expert team for scrutiny.
According to officials of the health department, Uttarakhand will be the first state in the country to implement the system. Orders were given for this in Tamil Nadu but never implemented.The Uttarakhand government, which sent out the order in April, has asked the health department to begin its implementation within a week, officials said.
Officiating director general of health department, Dr DS Rawat, said, "The move will help us keep stock of medicine availability and also, ensure that out-of-pocket expense of patients which is very high (about Rs 3,500 each) will come down substantially. and it is being practised in western countries so in India it must be implented."
The direction hasn't gone down well with government doctors of Uttarakhand, who disclosed that out of a list of 589 medicines in the Essential Drug List (EDL), health department procures only 250 to 300 as generic medicines , which forces doctors to prescribe non-generic medicines.Secondly quality of these generic medicines is also questionable as many are supplied to the health department by many spurious companies or though many middlemen and bribe to officials.Many medicines treating heart,kidney,cancer ,liver and many other diseases are not produced in generic version so what doctors will do for such diseases is questionable.

In the name of cheap popularity and for winning emotions of general people government or politicians are making DOCTORS scapegot for all raised cost of treatment while fact is this that doctors are not at all responsible for this,if Government think that only genric Medicines should persist then why Government allow multinational companies of pharmaceuticals in India,their all products should be banned,our PM foreign countries and invite them for investment and if they bring some medicines to treat many diseases whose generic version not available Doctor has to write their commercial names otherwise chemist shall not able to dispense it,If Government think than all private hospitals should be closed and only Government hospitals should be allowed and only generic medicines should be given there and Government should take all responsibilities if a disease is not controlled or a disease became advanced creating complications and death.
In this country Doctors have been made soft and easy target by politicians in west bengal a CM has brought a new clinical establishment act where for any failure in treatment will be judged by a board of justice and bureaucrats within 6 month as doctor is at guilt or not, if guilt will be jailed with hugh fine and against it no local court will hear doctor's plea . MCI being run by doctors but all its office bearers appear under pressure of their political boss to be remain on chair, passed such a bad gag order to write generic name for every medicines knowing well that now a so called illiterate chemist will give cheap brand of his choice or many diseases have such medicines whose generic names will not be read by chemist as most chemist are lay men not a passed registered pharmacist so ultimately patient will suffer and if disease not controlled or any complications or death occurs again doctor will be beaten by relatives, antisocial elements as activists or charged first as complain to police /FIR and then to a local civil/criminal or consumer court beside NGO,social activist and local print,electronic,social media will insult doctor badly.
Such behaviour of Politicians and Bureaucrats and own MCI persons toward Doctors are frightening them to remain doctor and practice medicine in such an enviornment of blame and disreputation.There is a valid question why our politicians and leaders are targeting doctors?
